About
Not a traditional software career. That's the point.

I'm Ryan Nugara — a commercial operator from Colombo who builds digital products. I'm not trying to imitate a twenty-year engineering career. My advantage is different: I understand commercial problems, customer behaviour and operational bottlenecks first-hand, and I use modern development tools to turn that understanding into working software.
I started building for the least romantic reason possible: my own workload. Sales and operations work runs on follow-ups, quotes, reviews and institutional memory, and all of it was manual. The first tools I built were for me. They worked, they compounded, and building became the job.
Sales and operations shaped how I build more than any tutorial could. Research beats the brief — I've rebuilt a demo mid-build because the prospect's own public footprint contradicted the premise, and the pitch only landed because of it. The admin side is usually the real product. And nothing ships on vibes: if a number matters, it gets reconciled against ground truth; if a system holds money or data, it gets tested like someone's trying to break it — because eventually someone is.
I build openly with AI — agentic tools are a core part of my workflow, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. The craft is in what I bring around them: product judgment, design direction, architecture decisions, and a verification discipline of automated tests, security checks and manual QA that everything must pass before it ships. AI gives me the reach of a small team; the standards stay mine.
What interests me now: senior roles where commercial operating experience and product-building ability compound; collaborations on AI-enabled business systems; and selective client builds through my studio, Mendwell. If the problem is real and the bar is high, I'd like to hear about it.
